Why content is becoming less and less interesting to consume

Have you noticed it’s getting harder to find something interesting to watch during lunch? I used to just play either Veritasium, Kurzgesagt (or) fern etc.. for some background video. They’re still great (Although, I feel Kurzgesagt is becoming boring slowly). but if there isn’t a new video, Most channel’s videos feel plastic.

Coming to text-based content on Twitter/Reddit/Linkedin, It’s frustrating to sift through the AI slop these days. Almost everyone uses the same structure to make a post. and I can’t stand those posts with the formulaic “It’s not just blah, It’s BLAAAAAH”. Yaack. Please, for the love of god, remove those em dashes, if you did generate that slop with AI.

The moment I identify a post as AI generated, it’s a huge turn off. Sometimes, I can’t put a finger on why I think a post is AI generated. I just feel it. May be I haven’t come across many posts of such nature, so I didn’t formulate a pattern yet. But I can sense some ick to it.

It’s not just shit, It’s BULLL SHIT

LinkedIn Post
I'm fairly certain this post is AI generated.

Meta didn’t just “track” users — they deliberately bypassed privacy settings designed to stop them.

WOAH, so they did WHAT? they byyyypaasssed the privacy settings? Uh huh.

Just search the term"didn’t just" on Linkedin. If you’re lazy, here: linkedin.com/keywords=didn’t just, and behold the AI generated slop.

I don’t understand this, even the popular influencers, with a dedicated media & PR team are also posting AI generated content without a second thought. Sure, AI crafts nice texts, but it has a identifiable pattern to it, that any sane person can identify (for now).

Stop with the hooks please

Another dead giveaway is the obsession with “the hook”. These posts are like a detective story, and they just finished investigating. but if every post they make is in that format, it’s just plain boring.

May be it’s actually working for them with growing their audience? I don’t know. But it feels corny to me. This style is more prevalent on X (formerly Twitter) threads.

AI generated videos

Sometimes, I come across a youtube video with <1000 views, with a nice thumbnail, and interesting title. “Hmm, this looks interesting, and this channel seems underrated” I think. I click. Turns out, it’s AI generated voice, repeating a bunch of words, with some images.

Dislike and move on. I should stick with known channels. Sigh.

It’s also because there are increasing number of tools that help to create AI generated content easily. Automatic reel creator, Viral Shorts, Faceless content manager etc… Are they actually making money? Or Are they just selling their services?

These days, I am more inclined to prefer boring content over interesting content, if it’s not AI generated.
